There’s spring in the air. The snowdrops have inspired this piece.
This is the shortest form of the story based on Ernest Hemmingway’s creation- ‘For sale: Baby shoes. Never worn.’
Another is ‘All those pages in the fire.’ —Janet Burroway Fellow writers may connect with this last one!
WILLIAM FAULKNER famously said that a novelist is a failed short story writer, and a short story writer is a failed poet. Hemingway, with his creation of the six-word story, combined poetry and drama into a short form that has grown in popularity while remaining difficult to achieve.
Here’s my attempt- ‘Eventually, time heals after the crash.’
Does it work for you?
Please, feel free to comment.
Thanks go to Jessie Cahalin for placing ‘What If I Go?’ in her Handbag Gallery. The beach bag makes me anticipate the warmer weather.
I hope the read will be a balm resonating with readers who have personal safety concerns around relationships.
Short stories are back in fashion. What a relief! That’s where I cut my teeth.
There’s tell of a revival, so says last Saturday’s Times newspaper in the UK. Thanks Matthew Moore their Media Correspondent, I’m happy.
As students have their reading week and a new Semester dawns, it makes me wonder how many get chance to read beyond the wonderfully accessible short to extend their commitment to a novella or novel. The whole curling up with a good book idea is not too much of an indulgence. It just needs the clocks to stop, the phones to break and social media to go away…
Snow is on the horizon, so prayers might be answered.

When the continued climb seems difficult and beyond our own strength…There’s nothing like reading to encourage us to write. At present, I am reading poetry by TS Elliot. What with the snow and cabin fever setting in and all!
That may sound heavy but it fits in with this time of year, really! See or hear ‘The Journey of the Magi’ on Google, to join me. I think it infers that to see beyond we need to keep looking upwards.
When I think I have it not so easy, this poetry is levelling. It works for me.
Also, getting by is easier with a friend up front. So let us hold on tight!
As you can see the cake is yet to be touched! We ate too much other food. The good news is that there is enough rum in there to preserve the cake for the new year… or save it for another celebration, maybe?
That’s the great thing about new beginnings there are exciting choices to be made. There is no need to rush, though. Tasting good things at the appropriate time is a treat and should be savoured. Looking forward to the delicious tastes of life this year.
Trusting that you will receive similar special gifts to share with friends and family in 2018. Be blessed.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.
If you’re looking for a last minute gift don’t take my word for it see the author interviews and recommendations for ‘What If I Go?’ student read, on this site.

I’m so excited to be hosted by Don Massenzio today on his site at
Thanks for all your support this year. There’s still time to treat a student to a book!
Peace and joy at this wonderful time of the year.
It’s great to collaborate on important reading material to empower the next generation.
Glad that the Story Reading Ape is out there to care about reaching student audiences. If you know a new student arm them with a novel to keep them up to date & safe.

We all can get by with a little help from our friends!
That’s apparently on Monday the 13th of November. If you didn’t know, don’t worry neither did I. What a shame that we have to be reminded to do something as fundamental to our well being as to be kind!
Let’s practise before Monday, shall we? Not because it’s a special day but because we can…
I shared a meal with someone this lunchtime. It was a lamb roast lunch, all but for the Yorkshire puddings, that I forgot. The pudding was pineapple upside down cake and custard (made with fresh pineapple.) I know! It tasted better than it looks, my smiley pud.So much for the diet. I’ll start tomorrow.
What do you recommend as the best way to show kindness? All ideas greatly received.
